Voices, Music, Spaces - A Unique Cultural Journey with Popmyfilm at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud

Between October 2022 and April 2023, Popmyfilm had the honor of producing the documentary Voice, Music, Spaces for the Collegium Musicæ of Sorbonne University. This unique project followed the original creation Libre Comme by Jean-Yves Bernhard , performed by the Sorbonne University Choir under the direction of Frédéric Pineau, in the majestic setting of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud . >> See the project and the documentary
A musical creation in motion
Unlike a traditional concert, " Libre Comme" is a musical stroll by 50 choristers through the various spaces of the Abbey. This immersive performance incorporates various sound elements, such as ratchets and whistles, and interacts with the acoustic environment of the place, notably the Abbey's brand new bells, still on display at the time in the Cloister Park. The challenges of a small team project
Filming such a performance represented a real logistical and artistic challenge. With a small crew of six, it was necessary to plot camera movements based on the progression of the choristers and the musical events, while respecting the integrity of the work and the audience's experience—a mission that Popmyfilm took to heart, especially Alexis Caro, the documentary's director.
When art meets science
Alongside the musical creation, acoustic studies were conducted to measure the sound characteristics of the Abbey's various spaces during performances. This dialogue between art and science enriches the documentary, offering a unique perspective on the interaction between music and architecture.
International recognition
The documentary Voice, Music, Spaces , directed by Alexis Caro and produced by Popmyfilm, was selected at the Venice Beach Fine Arts Film Festival , demonstrating the quality and originality of this project.
