The Snail:
The science of sound meets musical emotion

Commissioned by IRCAM, Sorbonne University, and the CNRS, this mini-documentary highlights SNAIL, a revolutionary sound visualizer invented by researcher Thomas Hélie. Produced with an immersive cinematic approach, this film combines scientific rigor, musical artistry, and innovation to reveal the educational power of sound visualization.

The project

At the request of IRCAM, Sorbonne University, and CNRS, we created a short documentary about the SNAIL, a sound tuner-visualizer that transforms the musical experience into a visual spectacle and generates perfect tuning. With a spiral design, each note and harmonic becomes visible. We chose an immersive narrative, mixing interviews with researchers, steadicam shots, and Cinemascope format, to honor this fusion of art, science, and technology.

The film perfectly illustrates Popmyfilm's ability to combine scientific complexity, visual accessibility, and cinematic aesthetics. A demonstration of our expertise in visual storytelling, motion design, and cultural popularization.
